aVern was born in Provo, Utah. She grew up and attended school in Spanish Fork. She stays very busy as a mother of seven children and grandmother of thirty-five including a set of twins.

When she and her husband Allen aren't involved with the family she spends her quiet time enjoying her cross stitch, needlepoint and crochet. She also loves to read a good book. Golf is her outside leisure and LaVern is a great sports enthusiast, watching her grandchildren participate in softball and soccer.
